We are happy that you are willing to help with our Wreath Across America event at Golden Gate National Cemetery . Please do not forget to register to volunteer! That way you will get all updates about the cemetery itself.
As with all things 2020, this year's Wreaths Across America at Golden Gate National Cemetery has been affected by COVID-19. San Mateo County is now under a mandatory Regional Stay At Home Order, effective Thursday, Dec. 17 at 11:59 p.m.
What does this mean for Saturday's wreath laying? While we are still asking for your help in honoring our veterans and heroes, we now have to require shift sign-ups between 8:00 am until 4:00 PM. We are being allowed two groups of 10 at different ends of the cemetery to lay wreaths for 45 minutes. It isn't a race to see how many you can place, so please do not feel like you have to place all the wreaths at once. There will be 9,100 wreaths to lay, which works out to approximately 45 wreaths per volunteer.
Please remember to bring and wear your face coverings and garden/work gloves. We also suggest that participants wear warm layers in case of inclement weather and to wear shoes that are comfortable and somewhat weather proof. Even if there isn't rain in the forecast, the cemetery can be very damp and wet.
We look forward to see you all at some point during the day on Saturday. And we can't thank you enough for your continued support of the mission at Golden Gate Nation Cemetery and your understanding and patience with the last minute changes.
GRAVE SPECIFIC WREATH REQUESTS: If you requested to place a grave specific wreath, please come at your convenience today (Friday, December 18th) after 2pm or tomorrow (Saturday 12/19). Please note that you will need to sign up for a time slot if you come on Saturday. Grave specific wreath requests will be located on Nimitz Drive. Please take a box of wreaths if you can or just take what you need.
Thank you!
Leianne Graves, Location Coordinator
